Cowhide, sheepskin and patchwork hides

A cowhide rug is a whole tanned hide with the hair on, in natural brindle, black‑and‑white, brown or dyed and metallic finishes; patchwork hide rugs are squares of hide stitched to a backing. Sheepskins are tanned with the fleece on, single, double or sewn into large rugs, in natural ivory or dyed. Reindeer and goat hides are hollow‑haired and shed. All are in modern interiors in Huntington, Roslyn, Manhasset, Rockville Centre, Long Beach and the Hamptons, and sheepskins are in nurseries and on chairs everywhere.

2

Cowhide & sheepskin rug cleaning questions

Can a cowhide be washed?

Not soaked; it is cleaned by hand on the hair side with a leather‑safe solution and minimal moisture, then conditioned.

Will my sheepskin be soft again?

Usually yes: the fleece is washed, dried flat and brushed out, and the leather conditioned.

How much does it cost?

From $4 per square foot by the piece; about $140 to $200 for a standard cowhide.

Can you remove pet urine from a hide?

It can be reduced substantially; leather holds urine and results depend on how long it has been there.

Do you pick up small sheepskins?

Yes, free, anywhere in Nassau and Suffolk.
