The rugs we collect from Rockville Centre, Merrick, Bellmore and Freeport

Rockville Centre and Lynbrook are older villages with substantial pre‑war housing, and their rugs run to mid‑century Persians, Sarouks, Kermans and Kashans, Chinese 90‑line rugs, and inherited pieces. Malverne and East Rockaway are similar on a smaller scale. Baldwin, Freeport, Merrick, Bellmore, Wantagh and Valley Stream are largely post‑war, capes, splits and colonials, with the full range of family rugs: Bokharas and Indo‑Persians from the 1980s, tufted wool and machine‑made rugs, Moroccans and viscose in the renovations, and a good number of hand‑knotted rugs that came from parents and grandparents in Brooklyn and Queens.

What sets this stretch apart is water. The south sides of Baldwin, Freeport, Merrick, Bellmore and Wantagh are canal and bayfront neighborhoods at low elevation. They flooded badly in Sandy and they still flood on high tides and nor'easters, and the rugs come to us afterward bled, salt‑stiff and mildewing. Pipe bursts, sump failures and washing‑machine floods add to it inland. The water‑damage process, same‑week pickup, sanitizing wash, stabilized bleed correction, fast drying, was refined on this route.

What goes wrong with rugs here, specifically

Tidal and storm flooding. Canal‑side houses south of Merrick Road. Get the rug off the wet floor, unroll it flat, and call; days matter. We carry it out of the basement ourselves.

Sump and appliance floods in finished basements, which are common here. Clean‑water floods recover very well if washed within a week.

Mildew smell from damp basements even without a flood. A full wash and controlled drying.

Inherited Brooklyn rugs. Sarouks, Kashans and Bokharas that came from a parent's apartment, never plant‑washed, with painted fields and decades of soil.

Pet urine on runners and family‑room rugs. Decontamination soak before the wash; replace the pad.

Tufted rugs with aging backings. We tell you honestly at inspection whether cleaning is worth it; usually it is.

Rockville Centre, Merrick, Bellmore and Freeport pickup questions

My basement flooded on the canal side. What do I do with the rug?

Get it off the wet floor, unroll it flat somewhere dry, do not fold it or put it in the sun, and call. Water‑damaged rugs are picked up the same week and washed ahead of routine work.

Can a rug that sat in bay water be saved?

Usually, if it reaches the plant within about a week and the foundation has not rotted. Sanitizing wash, stabilized bleed correction, fast drying. We document everything for insurance.

Do you pick up in Valley Stream and Lynbrook?

Yes, weekly on the South Shore route.

My parents' rug from Brooklyn has never been cleaned. Is it safe to wash?

Almost always, after a dye test and a check of the foundation and ends. We tell you if anything needs securing first.

Do you pick up in Baldwin Harbor and the canal streets?

Yes, weekly, and the route adds days after storms.
