The rugs we collect from Riverhead and the North Fork
The North Fork is farm country turned wine country turned weekend country, and its rugs reflect all three. The old farmhouses and village houses of Jamesport, Mattituck, Cutchogue, Southold and Orient have hooked, braided and rag rugs, inherited Persians and Chinese rugs, and the occasional very old piece; the renovated farmhouses and new weekend houses have kilims, dhurries, jute and sisal, Moroccans and Tibetans chosen by designers; Greenport village and Shelter Island Heights add Victorian houses and harbor damp; Riverhead, Calverton, Wading River and Baiting Hollow are year‑round communities with everyday and inherited rugs. Many houses are closed for the winter, and their rugs come to us in spring smelling of damp and in fall full of sand.
Rugs are rolled pile‑out on a tube and wrapped for the route to Farmingdale.
