Every strip is a different fabric, and we test every one

Boucherouite rug cleaning on Long Island

Boucherouite rugs are Moroccan rag rugs knotted from strips of recycled clothing and fabric in wild color, and no two strips behave the same way in water. At Farmingdale they are tested across the rug, washed cold with a stabilizer and short contact, and dried fast. We are honest that some bleeding of the most fugitive strips can be unavoidable. Free pickup across Nassau and Suffolk.

At Green Choice Oriental Rug Cleaning Long Island, every Boucherouite is cleaned inside our own plant at 44 Executive Blvd, Farmingdale, never on your floor, and never sent out to anyone else.

How to recognize a Boucherouite

Boucherouite (from the Arabic for "scrap") rugs are knotted on a wool or cotton foundation with strips of cotton, nylon, lurex, wool, polyester and anything else that came to hand, in exuberant, unplanned designs. They are light, soft, very colorful, and irregular in shape. They became fashionable on Long Island in the 2010s as accent rugs in Huntington, Roslyn, Rockville Centre, Long Beach and the Hamptons, and in children's rooms across both counties.

How Green Choice cleans a Boucherouite at 44 Executive Blvd

Speed and cold are the two principles: the shortest contact with water we use on any rug, a stabilizer throughout, and fast drying so no strip has time to bleed.

1

Strip‑by‑strip dye test

Each distinct color and fabric is tested. Fugitive strips are noted and you are told what may happen. Firm price approved.

2

Gentle dusting

Low setting; fabric strips are not beaten.

3

Cold wash with stabilizer, very short contact

Cool water, neutral solution, heavy stabilizer, in and out quickly with soft brushing.

4

Fast rinse

Quick cool flushing until clear.

5

Centrifuge and fast flat dry

Spun immediately, then dried fast with strong air movement so nothing travels.

Boucherouite rug cleaning questions

Can you guarantee nothing will bleed?

No, and anyone who does is guessing. We test every strip, use cold water, a stabilizer and the shortest contact time we use on any rug, and we tell you before washing which strips are risky.

Is it worth cleaning?

If you love it, yes. If it was cheap and heavily urine‑contaminated, we will tell you honestly.

How much does it cost?

$4 to $6 per square foot; about $100 to $145 for a 4×6.

Can you straighten the shape?

No; the irregular shape is how it was woven.

Do you pick up small rugs?

Yes, free, anywhere in Nassau and Suffolk.
