The rugs we collect from the Five Towns

The Five Towns have some of the oldest and best rug collections in Nassau. The pre‑war colonials and Tudors of Hewlett Harbor, Woodsburgh, Hewlett Bay Park and the Lawrence Cedarhurst border were furnished in the 1930s to 1960s with room‑size Persian rugs, Kashans, Sarouks, Kermans and Tabrizes, many of which are still in the same houses, sometimes with the same families. These arrive at the plant as inherited or semi‑antique rugs: worn ends, painted Sarouk fields, decades of foundation soil, and the occasional dry‑rot scare from a basement.

Alongside them, the Five Towns have a rhythm of their own that shapes the work: large dining‑room rugs that host big Shabbat and holiday tables and take heavy traffic and food spills; a rush before Pesach and the fall holidays every year; runners in halls and on stairs that wear their ends fast; and customers who need rugs back by a specific date. We schedule around that calendar and we get busy in the weeks before each holiday, so booking early matters.

Newer homes and renovations in Woodmere and Cedarhurst bring modern rugs as well: Moroccans, Tibetans, tufted wool from the big retailers, and a great many viscose "silk" rugs sold by local and Brooklyn dealers, which we identify honestly at inspection and clean with the low‑moisture method.
