The rugs we collect from Roslyn, Old Westbury and Brookville

Old Westbury, Brookville, Upper Brookville and Muttontown are estate country: large houses, large rooms, and rugs sized to match, chosen by decorators. That means decorator Oushaks and Chobis in the 10×14 to 12×18 range, Tibetan and Nepalese designer rugs from the big design houses with silk, hemp and viscose highlights, oversize ivory Moroccans, and the occasional genuine antique Persian or Aubusson in a formal room. The houses have staff, dogs, and floors that a big rug must not slide on, so dense felt padding cut to size goes out with almost every delivery.

Roslyn, Roslyn Heights, Roslyn Estates and East Hills are denser and more varied: fine Persian rugs in the older Roslyn houses, modern designer rugs in the East Hills renovations, and everyday tufted wool and viscose in the newer construction. Glen Head, Greenvale, Albertson and Searingtown add the mid‑century Kashans and Bokharas of established family homes.

What the whole area has in common is soft wool. Oushaks, Chobis and Tibetans are loosely spun and lustrous, and they felt, mat and lose their sheen if washed hot or agitated hard. Everything from here gets the cold, low‑agitation wash and directional drying that keeps the pile soft.

What goes wrong with rugs here, specifically

Tea‑wash coming out of Oushaks. The muted "antique" tint on decorator Oushaks runs in warm water. Tested in several places and washed cold with a stabilizer.

Matting in traffic lanes. Soft wool crushed flat between the front door and the kitchen. A cold wash, centrifuge and grooming while drying separate the fibers again.

Viscose highlights in designer rugs. Many Tibetan and transitional rugs sold here have bamboo‑viscose highlights that a carpet cleaner stiffens and yellows. Every highlight is fiber‑tested and handled by hand.

Moth damage in second homes and guest wings. Rooms that are closed for months are where moth larvae eat undisturbed wool. We check every rug in the pickup and wash out larvae and eggs.

Urine on ivory fields. Estate dogs and ivory Oushaks. Decontamination soak before the wash.

Rugs that creep on stone and hardwood. Big rugs on big floors need a proper pad; PVC waffle pads from home stores discolor the finish. Felt with a natural‑rubber face, cut an inch inside the edge.

Route and towns

Roslyn, Old Westbury and Brookville pickup questions

Can you handle a 12×18 Oushak?

Yes; two technicians, rolled on a tube, and washed, spun and dried flat in a plant built for room‑size and oversize rugs.

Will the muted colors of my Oushak change?

The tea wash is tested and stabilized so it stays. What changes is the grey of soil, which comes out.

Do you work with interior designers?

Yes; rugs are collected and cleaned before installation and delivered to the site on the designer's schedule.

My designer rug has shiny highlights. Are they silk?

Often viscose. We fiber‑test every highlight at inspection and clean accordingly; both are handled by hand.

Do you supply padding for stone floors?

Yes; felt with a natural‑rubber face, cut to the rug, safe for stone, tile and finished hardwood.
